Michael McIndoe’s Edinburgh City faced off against familiar opponents in Stranraer at Meadowbank for Week 10 of the Scottish League Two season. While City have been impressive at times in the early stages of their campaign, a cloud of doubt still hangs over them after last week’s defeat to Alloa.
The Edinburgh club began the season with a 15-point deduction, making survival the clear priority if they are to remain in the league.
City were back at home at Meadowbank to face the west coast side Stranraer. In their previous meeting, Edinburgh pulled off a dramatic late comeback while being a goal down, with Jack Duncan and new signing Bradley Barrett scoring key goals — Barrett’s a spectacular strike from outside the box.
This season has been full of highs and lows for Edinburgh City, but they have now wiped off their 15-point deduction completely, sitting on zero points after a tough start. Edinburgh City are likely to return to their usual league form soon, after what seems like a burnout from the heavy efforts to reclaim those deducted points.
Stranraer, on the other hand, have also struggled for form, sitting only five points ahead of Edinburgh. Their key to survival this year will be maintaining consistency — something they’ve lacked in recent seasons. Having avoided relegation before due to other clubs’ point deductions, they can’t afford to rely on luck again.
A fan-favorite side in the Scottish lower leagues, Stranraer boast a unique media presence and a close-knit fanbase whose energy often reflects in the team’s performances. The departure of Elliot Dunlop was a big loss going into the campaign, leaving the Blues once more looking to record scorer Deryn Lang for inspiration.
This afternoon, though, it was Finn Ecrepont who stole the headlines. The winger scored two well-worked goals — the first from a clever overlapping move and the second a beautifully struck free-kick. Edinburgh City couldn’t find an answer in either half as Stranraer controlled the game.
After the match, Ecrepont said he was “absolutely buzzing.”

While Edinburgh City remain bottom of the table on zero points, Stranraer have found some much-needed momentum at a crucial stage of the season.
