The slick, elusive orthodox returns on August 29th to face Dean Sutherland at The Ardoe House in Aberdeen, a date that should already be circled in the calendars of Scottish boxing fans.
Thain’s style? It’s that kind of slick, technical approach employing sharp footwork and a piston-like jab that keeps opponents guessing. His sharp ring IQ and timing come from years spent training with some incredible fighters from the UK, including the likes of Josh Taylor.
Speaking to AVRG JO recently, John kept it simple: “There’s stuff in the basement.” Behind that line lies hours of hard work with sharp focus and tactical preparation.

John Thain returns to the ring with unfinished business. Thain has an impressive career with 17 professional wins, including a 10-fight unbeaten start and a shot at the IBF European welterweight title. Now, after five years away, the Edinburgh native is looking to make a statement. On August 29th at The Ardoe House, he steps into hostile territory against local Dean Sutherland. The Aberdeen crowd may be loud, but Thain’s slick technique and quiet confidence could be what echoes loudest when the final bell rings.
